About the PR Specialist role at BioStrata

The role of PR Specialist will be to operate within the agency, working with account management teams across different client accounts as required. It is similar to the PR Account Manager and PR Account Director roles found in many other agencies. The main difference is that more of your time will be freed up to focus on delivering world-class PR programs, supported by an account team that will handle day-to-day project management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support our account teams and clients to develop effective, innovative and exciting PR strategies to meet their specific requirements and align to commercial objectives
  • Development of high quality, engaging and creative content, on-time and on-budget, in conjunction with our content team as appropriate
  • Implementation of plans and projects across PR-focused accounts
  • Proactively seek to build and maintain media relationships
  • Write press releases, news stories, articles, case studies and product pieces
  • Pitch press releases and feature ideas by phone or email to national, regional and trade journalists, across print, broadcast and online, to interest them in covering their clients’ stories
  • Respond to phone calls and emails from journalists
  • Arrange interviews and editorial meetings with key journalists for clients’ spokespeople - in person or over the phone - and facilitate these meetings where appropriate
  • Monitor media coverage and report results to the wider team and clients
  • Attend client events and industry conferences
  • Handle clients’ social media accounts such as their Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn page
  • Deliver analytics reports on social media, reporting on traffic, engagement and follower figures
  • Brainstorm fresh ideas for PR campaigns

What skills are required?

We are looking for someone who shares our values and believes in our mission that also has:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a PR agency
  • Previous experience working with clients that operate globally including creating, managing and executing PR programmes that deliver results
  • Experience with reviewing PR and project materials produced by the team (e.g. press release, articles, media pitches, metrics reports etc.), providing insightful QA and QC input
  • A positive, proactive attitude and someone who thrives on taking responsibility and accountability
  • A diverse and deep knowledge of the modern marketing mix, including demonstrable knowledge of how owned, earned, paid and social media can be leveraged across a wide range of digital and traditional channels to drive business results
  • A strong eye for effective creative work, as well as a keen eye for detail and a passion for the highest possible standards of work quality
A scientific background (e.g. BSc or PhD in a biology-related subject) is preferred but not essential.

  • Location: Our head office is in Cambridge, UK (but remote and hybrid options are also available)
  • Salary: Our salaries are very competitive based on salaries in the UK. We also offer a wide range of benefits and an attractive bonus scheme:
    • PR specialist salary band: £30k - £50k  (dependent on previous experience)
